Choosing the Right RC Car
Choosing an RC car can be incredibly exciting! However, with the number of options available in the market, you might be wondering which one is best for you. We recommend focusing on the following factors to make a decision:
Type of car:
- On-road: These are suitable for smooth surfaces.
- Off-road: These are suitable for rough terrains.
- Specialty cars: These cars are designed to replicate the look of real-life cars, which makes them suitable for display. Often drift cars fall into this category where they are very realistic and very functional.
Power source and battery type:
- Electric:
- These are convenient to store and maintain.
- Nickel Metal Hydride Batteries are an economical choice
- Lithium Polymer Batteries provide longer run times
- Nitro-powered: While they provide longer run times, they require more maintenance and are quite messy with fuel residue.
Scale: Many scales are suitable for different terrains depending on the design of the vehicle.
- Small scale: 1/24th and 1/18th scales are typically used for small crawler vehicles or beginner vehicles.
- 1/10 scale: This is the most common scale with the largest selection of vehicles.
- 1/8 scale: This is a less common scale typically used in off road racing.
Drivetrain configuration:
- Two-wheel drive (2WD): These cars are more fun to do tricks with and require more skill to drive.
- Four-wheel drive (4WD): These are great for the most extreme conditions and allow for ultimate traction and handling.
Experience level:
- Beginner: You should opt for electric vehicles in either 2WD or 4WD using Nickel Metal Hydride batteries.
- Intermediate: You should consider electric vehicles in either 2WD or 4WD using Lithium Polymer batteries for increased power and speed.
- Advanced: Nitro-powered cars might be more suitable at this level but also consider high power electric.
With these considerations, you can pick a model that enhances your collection and your hobby. We offer a vast inventory in Calgary; just ask our knowledgeable staff, and we will help you choose the best one!
